So the college football season is past the midway point and the saints are heading for a top 10 pick at this point.

The saints offense hasn't averaged over 23 PPG since Drew Brees' retired 5 years ago and that is largely because the saints have continually lost premier talent at TE, WR and RB like Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston, Michael Thomas and Mark Ingram and have failed to thoroughly replace them with equal talent.

Regardless of what happens between now and free agency my draft blog will cover mainly offensive players with a few choices defenders mixed in.

To kick off the inaugural mock draft season, my first official mock is listed below with a brief explanation of each pick.

Denzel Boston -the big possession wr the saints have lacked since the retirements of Colston and Thomas. Boston has better speed than both while still having the requisite frame to win contested catches and move the chains.

Antonio Williams- - Williams can play inside or outside and was rated the #1 wr overall coming into the 2025 season. He would be a steal here and massive upgrade over Brandon cooks

Nic Singleton--A RB with the elite tools and speed of Jonathan Taylor for an anemic rushing attack

Adam Randall-- I personally have Randall as my #1 running back overall. He is a steal here.

Zion young---as defender with size and technical value vs both the run and pass. Very similar to Carl Granderson

Jacob Rodriguez--a linebacker in contention for the Heisman trophy could help replace demario Davis

Devin Moore--tall, rangy corner with elite tools who has been shutting down QBs all season long to the tune of a 40 passer rating when targeted.

Haynes King--the heir apparent to Taysom hill might go much higher than this once draft time rolls around. Could serve as a wildcat QB and potential starter long-term

Something just struck me.

A.J. Brown won a Super Bowl

A.J. Brown has gotten paid

A.J. Browns team is successful

A.J. Brown is not happy.

In a vacuum those truths are interesting because they could be interpreted as a character flaw, the Diva WR, but then you read this quote and you realize his motivation is more complex.

"I know everybody's counting on me — that's my thrill," he said to The Athletic's Brooks Kubena. "And then I come through. That makes me proud of myself. And I'm doing it over and over again. And then I got another opportunity a couple of plays later. Third down. Everybody knows the ball's coming to me. I love that feeling. Like, it's a rush. I don't do drugs, but that has to be what drugs feels like. And I'm getting that dopamine. And I'm coming through for my team again.

"And that's where the excitement comes from. And that's why it's frustrating at times. And maybe people really misunderstand me as a player, but those feelings — that's what I want. You may see a little frustration. It's because I really want to contribute. I really want to help this team win. But if I'm not getting the ball, obviously, it's not as fun."

Brown is malcontent because he doesn’t feel he’s helping the Eagles win and the Saints desperately need someone who can help them win.

Jalen Hurts no longer requires A.J. Brown to be successful, but Tyler Shough could use a veteran security blanket. It’s a privilege that most young franchise QBs are afforded to help with development.

A few examples of this dynamic would be:

Cam Newton>Steve Smith

Josh Allen>Stefon Diggs

Bryce Young> Adam Thielen

Monitoring the Eagles/Brown relationship and how it progresses or regresses leading up to the NFL trade deadline on November 4th should be squarely on the Saints radar.
