As the NFL preseason heats up, the New Orleans Saints are gearing up for joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams this Thursday in California. This event promises to be a thrilling opportunity for both teams to sharpen their skills and assess their rosters before the season kicks off. Joint practices have surged in popularity across the league, enabling teams to create competitive environments that mimic game situations while encouraging teamwork and camaraderie.

Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore offered a few insights into what to expect.

  • A heavy dosage of 1's vs 1's roughly 60% and the QB's will rotate

  • Won't be open to public (media updates likely to come post-practice)

  • Focus on situational football

  • Practice will decide how workloads are distributed for matchup vs Jaguars

  • Will be a thud practice (no tackling to the ground)

When asked if this type of situation could be weird considering the Saints play the Rams in week 8, Moore shot down the thought. "We talked about that, it's the back half, it'll be week 9 so I assume we'll be 8 games in, probably will have a good feel for what both teams are doing at that point"

The New Orleans Saints former 1st round pick will be sidelined for the foreseeable future and could be in jeopardy of missing Week 1 of the NFL season. The circumstances are extremely unfortunate as Penning had begun to find his footing following a position switch from tackle to left guard, a genius decision made by new head coach Kellen Moore. This could be considered a significant setback in Pennings development at his new position, and another hit to the Saints offensive line after also losing backup G\C Will Clapp to IR on Tuesday.

The good news, it's turf toe, so it's not season ending. The bad news, it's turf toe. Offensive linemen rely heavily on their footwork and stability making turf toe particularly impactful depending on the severity.

The New Orleans Saints will be without WR Bub Means after placing him on IR following an ankle injury suffered in their pre-season game vs the Chargers. The 2nd year wideout was one of the few receivers on the roster that didn't offered a different body type than the smaller Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Brandin Cooks, and Mason Tipton, and there were high hopes among the fan base that Means would carve out a role as the big possession receiver using his 6'1 212 frame as a target over the middle.

The real bummer? As fate would have it Means endured a similar ankle injury in week 8 of the 2024 season, in the same stadium, that also saw the Saints lose him for the year.
